Addis Ababa, Ethiopia โ On June 16, 2025 G.C., Heran Gerba, Director General of the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA), held a discussion with Ancora, a UK-based international investment delegation known for manufacturing, importing, and distributing pharmaceuticals and food, as well as consulting investors interested in engaging in these sectors globally.
During the briefing provided to the delegation, it was highlighted that Ethiopia possesses significant potential resources and has created vast opportunities for investors in the pharmaceutical and food manufacturing sectors, including the establishment of industrial zones. The Director General announced that the EFDA, as a regulatory body, will provide support to any investor engaging in these sectors from the very beginning.
Furthermore, the delegation was given a comprehensive explanation of the overall regulatory framework and the processes for ensuring quality and safety. They were also invited to invest in Ethiopia.
Joel Popoola, the North East England and African Group chair and Ambassador for the Ancora Institute of Directors, stated that the delegation, comprised of members from various countries, is involved in investments in Europe, America, and other nations. Given Ethiopia’s huge potential and its attractiveness for investment, they expressed their interest in working in the country. He specifically mentioned that, in the food sector, beyond generating wealth by adding value to Ethiopia’s renowned coffee product, they could also facilitate its proper supply to European and American markets.
During their stay in the country, the delegation members will visit other sector offices. The EFDA also assured them that it would provide support and follow-up from the outset to companies investing in Ethiopia, as they work to produce quality and safe competitive products.
