๐ผ๐๐๐ข๐, ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ค๐ฅ๐๐ โ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ 27, 2017 โ The Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) has introduced draft guideline requiring edible oil and flour manufacturers to fortify their products with essential vitamins and minerals and registered by the authority. In an effort to ensure the effectiveness and feasibility of the regulations, EFDA hosted a stakeholder discussion forum in Adama, inviting key industry representatives to provide feedback.

The draft registration guideline were presented by Ato Mengistu Asfaw, EFDAโs Lead Executive Officer for Food Registration and Licensing. The session included a comprehensive discussion, during which stakeholders shared insights and sought clarifications on key aspects of the guidelines. EFDA officials, including Negash Sime, Mulatu Tesfaye (Food Inspection and Enforcement LEO), Mengistu Asfaw (Food Registration and Licensing LEO), and Wondafrash Abera (Technical Advisor), addressed concerns and responded to questions.
The new guideline is part of EFDAโs broader efforts to enhance the registration of fortified food and ensure food safety and nutrition across Ethiopia. Once finalized, the guidelines will require all manufacturers to register their products and comply with fortification standards, ensuring that widely consumed food products contribute to better public health.
EFDA continues to engage with stakeholders and the public to refine the guidelines, reinforcing its commitment to improving food safety, quality and nutritional standards nationwide.
