Ethiopia Celebrates Medicine Safety Week!
Addis Ababa, November 5, 2025: The Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) is currently celebrating Medicine Safety Week with great enthusiasm under the powerful theme: “We Can All Help Make Medicines Safer.”
The event highlights the crucial role everyone plays in monitoring the safety of medicines.
Reporting Side Effects is Essential: W/ro Asnakech Alemu, the Lead Executive for Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trials, emphasized that adverse events can occur when using medicines and must be carefully identified and reported.
The Safety Reporting Chain: W/ro Asnakech stressed the necessity for users to report any observed side effects to a health professional who then reports it to the Authority (EFDA).
EFDA’s Actions: She highlighted the Authority’s commitment to using these reports to:
o Organize incoming data.
o Take corrective actions.
o Meaningfully analyze adverse event data to enhance overall medicine safety.
